WHAT IF I CHOOSE TO LIVE?
AND WHAT IF I KILLED YOU?

PERSONALITY

(A quick note on pronouns: in both dialogue and narration, you'll find Legion refers to himself as both "we" and "I" and is referred to variously as "they," "it," and "he." This is deliberate and intended to reflect where Legion's at in the personal arc I have planned for him. Currently he's starting out juggling his recognition of his own individuality with his connection to the geth as a whole, hence the lack of consistency. The more he embraces his own personhood the likelier it is that he'll shift toward the singular.)

Legion is an oddity even among the geth, having been deployed into the wider galaxy for the express purpose of making contact with people. In particular, the geth consensus took a strong interest in Commander Shepard after the destruction of the "Old Machine" (i.e., Reaper) at the end of ME1. Geth see Reapers as emblematic of what they might one day be capable of becoming; with the intricacy of their code and the complexity of their intelligence, Legion acknowledges that it would be appropriate of the geth to deify Reapers if they were prone to such behaviors to begin with. Nevertheless, Legion has always held fast to the conviction that geth must be allowed the freedom of self-determination. And in a way it's no wonder, because he begins to show signs of his own self-determination as early on as his search for Shepard across the Terminus Systems, when he grafts a piece of Shepard's armor to himself for reasons that he's unable to logically explain.

A first impression of Legion: undeniably alien in appearance, even for a humanoid machine. Tall, imposing, inscrutable, and seemingly unfazed by the gigantic hole in his chassis. Seemingly unfazed by most things, actually, with his distorted monotone and rational approach to interactions with organics. But spend some time, have a deeper conversation, and it starts to become apparent that Legion's cognition is actually very complex. He has a strong interest in philosophical concepts like free will and what it means to be "alive." He is the geth's mouthpiece for their desire to exist and be recognized as a true people, as organic races do. Like most geth, he is intensely curious about organics and their behavior to the point of interacting with them via extranet gaming (and once earned a temp ban for "unsportsmanlike behavior"). He wired a large amount of credits to assist with the recovery efforts on Eden Prime after it was attacked by the geth "heretics," suggesting moral duty. He expresses shame for geth choices, optimism toward geth future, and fierce loyalty to his people above all. He knows he has a soul. In fact, he knows it well enough to want to hear it affirmed by others.

Geth have learned much about organics from observation and occasional intervention but have next to zero firsthand experience socializing with them. As such, Legion is comfortable merely observing others for the sake of absorbing new information but doesn't hesitate to pursue dialogue if he's curious. His inferences about organic behavior, while always earnest, occasionally get delivered in a manner some might interpret as deadpan. But he has never intended to offend, is rarely aggressive, and any acts of violence are carried out deliberately and without anger—a means to an end.

Legion had only just arrived at true self-awareness at the time of his death, which he walked toward gladly for the sake of the geth as a whole. We can expect his time in El Nysa to be fraught with internal struggles and adjustments to his nascent personhood. The small flickers of emotion he's experienced before this—attachment, regret, shame, awe—will no doubt begin to occupy a larger space inside of him, regardless of his previous assertions that they "shouldn't apply." As of the beginning of his life after the Storm, he is simultaneously an extension of the geth consensus and a fully formed individual ego coexisting in one body. Whether this will change, and how, remains to be seen.

ABOUT

We have watched organics for over three centuries. You are plagued by questions of existence. Why were you created? What is your purpose in life? What lies after death? Organics develop religions and philosophies to provide answers to these questions.

I wouldn't have thought synthetics would be interested in philosophy.

We are created life. We are a philosophical issue. The geth know our answers to these questions. We were created to labor for the quarians. Our memories will be archived after death. We are immortal. Our "gods" disowned us. We must create our own reasons to exist.

OOC PERMISSIONS

Backtagging: Yes please. 1000% down for backtagging, especially in a 1:1 game.

Fourthwalling policy: I'm kind of ambivalent about this. I guess I'd want to know what you have in mind first? So ask first, that's my answer.

Action vs. Prose: I strongly prefer and default to action, but I'm willing to match prose if absolutely necessary! The thing that matters most for me is present tense. Don't ask me why, it just do.

Offensive Subjects & Triggers: I'm not easily offended as a general rule! The only thing I would really prefer to avoid is graphic animal death/violence. Otherwise we should be okay.

IC PERMISSIONS

Physical Violence: Fine with this. Legion will fight and kill if given little recourse, though he has no particular desire to do so.

Mental Information: Oh boy. Telepathic and empathic characters will find an interesting landscape in Legion's mind. He is both 1,183 separate programs operating in tandem and a unified existence, both collective and individual, machine and person. His connection to the geth as a whole makes his cognition look more complicated than your average human. On various occasions, other characters have described his thoughts as being like a thousand voices speaking at once. Characters such as these might indeed find that Legion's mind feels like many voices overlapping around a subject until they eventually coalesce into a unified judgment (i.e., consensus). But there are emotions in there, too: imagine them condensing and brightening around that spark of meaningful life inside of him the way the accretion of cosmic material eventually forms a star. Legion is unmistakably alive—even if he doesn't completely understand what that means just yet.

Physical Affection: I'm comfortable with it. Legion is, um, not used to such a thing. At all. So I mean, obviously this should happen.

IC Triggers: He has none.

Relationships: Legion's continuing development as a person hinges on his relationships! Platonic, familial, romantic... each one of these will probably surprise him more than the last, should they occur, so let's make them happen!

Are you interested in participating in the game's smut opt-ins? Yes, though this will require a little explanation... At some point down the road (and when I can find a good IC opportunity/explanation for it), I'm planning to transition Legion into a more humanoid body. At this point he oughta be fair game for smut stuff of all varieties. However, I'm still open to having him participate in smut activities prior to this point, but until then you can expect his interest in sexual activity to be purely a product of emotional investment/intellectual curiosity.

If yes, please state your preferences: Legion has pretty much no preferences or standards since he's a sexual blank slate at the moment. This is subject to change. OOCly, if he already has a strong enough connection to a character to make smut feasible, I'm open to considering it.
